We are a group of volunteers working tirelessly to re-open the railway line from Amlwch to Gaerwen on the island of Ynys Môn. We believe it’s a valuable asset and would provide an important community railway and provide much needed employment to the people of the island
We now possess a 99 year lease from Network Rail and they are confident that we can complete our objectives and re-open this 17.5 Gem of a line from Amlwch in the North of the island to Gaerwen in the South. Perhaps with connections at Gaerwen to the main line we can connect further to Bangor on the mainland or beyond? |
Now that we have the lease we can work on getting the funding required for the restoration of the line, we believe that costs required will not be as high as some assume as we will attempt to combine volunteer work and use private companies for competitive pricing and also still maintain high standards of work and safety to restore the railway. |
The clearing of vegetation has been taking place for some years now and we have managed well albeit with a small group to clear a number of miles of track between Llangefni and Llannnerch y Medd. It has been hard work and we have realised year after year that there is always constant maintenance and up-keep required on the track to keep it clear and we have constantly have to go back to clear re-growth of vegetation, but we are progressing. |
There is a lot of work to be done but with your support and help we will achieve our aims. You could do this by joining ACR ltd, contribute financially or contribute by being a volunteer. There are further details in this website. Please also look at the photos in the gallery of the work done already and keep in touch by reading our quarterly news bulletin. |
